Project Brief
Previously working together for 6 years at the Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool, I have known Joe from Diggerwerx for over 10 years. Already self-employed with his tree surgery business, Treewerx, Joe has regularly got in touch with Digidol to ask for advice on various marketing ideas and social media campaigns.
Now looking to expand from tree surgery into groundworks and fencing, Joe decided that he wanted to create a partner brand in Diggerwerx. The goal was simple, to clearly separate the different services that each business offered, whilst maintaining and building on the positive reputation built around the ‘-werx’ brand.
In addition, as Diggerwerx is a new venture, Joe wanted a place to showcase the groundwork projects already completed. Creating a more permanent place for a portfolio that Joe could showcase to prospective clients, rather than directing them to old social media posts.
Project Overview
Joe’s website brief was simple. He wanted a modern-looking website design with a black, grey and white colour scheme that was different to the green used for Treewerx – to make a clear distinction between the sites. He also wanted a bold text style that stood out to grab the attention of the reader and simple navigation to explore the large list of services that Diggerwerx offer.
Service Pages
As the range of services that Diggerwerx offers varies due to the wide scope of what is actually included in groundworks, we worked with Joe to create a comprehensive list of services. We then split these services into core groups so that they could be made into service pages.
Rather than just listing each service under a header, for SEO purposes and to target rankings for more keywords, we split each page into sections for each service with easy-to-read paragraphs on what Diggerwerx offers.
Wanting to avoid overwhelming the reader with large amounts of text we were sure to include eye-catching images between each service. In addition, to a sidebar for simple navigation on the desktop version of the website, that switches to a navigation box on tablet and mobile devices.
Portfolio & Projects
Finally, we created the portfolio section of the website, collating a large number of different projects already undertaken by the Diggerwerx team. Rather than just upload a selection of images that show the progression of the project, Joe and I got together to provide a detailed description of each job.
This helps to boost the overall site health and its SEO as it avoids ‘thin content pages’ and also provides an opportunity to link back to service pages making the projects double up as supporting, highly relevant content.
In addition, it shows prospective clients the expertise that exists at Diggerwerx and an insight into the challenges included and the solutions implemented to prevent common issues like poor drainage or flooding.
Project Review
Happy with the design and style, now we are looking at continuing to build the backlink profile and SEO strength of the new Diggerwerx website. Included within this long-term digital marketing strategy is utilising the existing Treewerx website to mutually benefit the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) rankings for both sites.
Due to both businesses existing within the same industry and locations, it is important to be careful when interlinking to avoid the pages’ content competing in SERPs. To do this we conducted a selection of A/B tests and prioritised services and keywords for each website.
This helped to reduce the likelihood of competing content and provide an SEO boost to the more relevant service content for each of the Diggerwerx and Treewerx sites.
