Project Brief

Plas Yn Dinas needed a website that could properly showcase one of Montgomeryshire’s oldest surviving pubs, while giving the business a professional online platform to promote its food, drinks, history, events and role within the Llanfechain community.

Digidol originally built the Plas Yn Dinas website from scratch, creating a clear and practical online presence for the pub. Following a change in ownership and management, the project developed further, with the website content and messaging updated to better reflect the new direction of the business.

The new team, led by Mark Blake, wanted Plas Yn Dinas to be seen as more than a traditional village pub. Their vision was to position it as a destination country pub in Powys, combining high-quality seasonal food, local ingredients, local ales, fine wines, community events and the character of a historic Grade II listed building.

The website needed to support this wider business direction. It had to communicate not only what Plas Yn Dinas offers, but why people should visit, whether they are local diners, families, tourists exploring Mid Wales or visitors looking for somewhere memorable to eat near Llanfechain, Welshpool, Llanfyllin or Oswestry.

Project Overview

A key part of the project was understanding how Mark wanted Plas Yn Dinas to be viewed. The focus was not simply on updating menus, opening times and contact details, but on building a clearer identity around the pub and the experience of visiting.

The refreshed website content was shaped around several core messages: Plas Yn Dinas as a destination dining pub, the importance of local sourcing, the role of award-winning chef Ryan McCartney, the pub’s historic setting, and its continued place within the Llanfechain community.

This helped move the website away from being purely informational and towards becoming a stronger marketing platform for the business. The content needed to explain the thought and care behind the menu, the use of local produce, the seasonal approach to food, the carefully selected drinks offering and the welcoming atmosphere of the pub itself.

The project also gave us the opportunity to strengthen the tourism angle of the website. Plas Yn Dinas sits in a beautiful part of Mid Wales, close to market towns, walking routes, local heritage and popular attractions. By expanding content around the local area, the website could appeal to both local customers and people planning days out, short breaks or visits across Powys and the Welsh border.

Website Content & Messaging

The main focus of the updated website content was to better reflect the new business direction.

The homepage was shaped around the idea of Plas Yn Dinas as an iconic destination pub in Powys, with food at the centre of the experience. Rather than simply describing the pub as somewhere to eat and drink, the content highlights the seasonal menu, local produce, award-winning chef, local draught beers, wine list and the different occasions the pub can cater for.

The About page was also expanded to give more depth to the Plas Yn Dinas story. This included content around the pub’s history, its Grade II listed building, its role within Llanfechain, and the values behind the food and drink offering. Supporting local farmers, butchers, greengrocers, breweries, cider producers and other businesses was an important part of the messaging.

The aim was to show that the local-first approach is not just a nice extra, but a core part of how the business operates. From seasonal ingredients and ethical sourcing to local ales and community events, the website needed to explain the business ideas behind the pub in a clear and engaging way.

Website Design

As the website was already built by Digidol, the design work focused on ensuring the structure continued to support the direction of the business.

The site was kept clear, simple and easy to navigate, with pages designed to help users quickly find the information they need, including menus, the story behind the pub, local attractions, contact details and booking information.

The design needed to balance the traditional character of Plas Yn Dinas with the elevated food offering now being promoted. The website could not feel too formal or detached from its village pub roots, but it also needed to reflect the quality, creativity and ambition behind the dining experience.

By combining warm, practical design with richer content, the website gives users a clearer sense of what to expect before they visit. It presents Plas Yn Dinas as welcoming and community-focused, while also showing that the food, drink and overall experience are worth travelling for.

Content & SEO

SEO was an important part of the project, especially because the new direction of the business created opportunities to target a wider range of searches.

The website content was developed to support visibility around terms connected to pubs in Powys, places to eat in Mid Wales, country pubs near Welshpool, places to eat near Oswestry, and things to do around Llanfechain and the surrounding area.

The local attractions content also helps connect Plas Yn Dinas with nearby destinations such as Llanfyllin, Welshpool, Oswestry, Lake Vyrnwy, Powis Castle and Pistyll Rhaeadr. This gives the website more relevance for visitors exploring the area and helps position the pub as part of a wider Mid Wales experience.

By improving the depth of the website content, the site now has a stronger foundation for organic search while also doing a better job of communicating the values and personality of the business.

Ongoing Support

Digidol continues to support Plas Yn Dinas with ongoing website updates, content improvements, marketing consultancy and social media support as the business develops.

This includes helping keep the website aligned with seasonal menus, events, business updates and the wider direction of the pub. As the team continues to build the Plas Yn Dinas brand, the website provides a flexible platform that can evolve with them.

The aim is to keep strengthening the site over time, ensuring it continues to support the pub’s reputation, attract the right visitors, promote local food and drink, and showcase the role Plas Yn Dinas plays within Llanfechain and the wider Mid Wales community.

Project Review

Plas Yn Dinas has been a great project for Digidol to be involved with because it combines so many elements that make a local business special: history, food, community, tourism, local suppliers and a clear sense of place.

The website now gives the business a stronger platform to communicate its direction and showcase the experience of visiting. It reflects Plas Yn Dinas as both a historic village pub and a destination dining venue, helping users understand the quality, values and personality behind the business before they arrive.

For Digidol, this project also fits closely with our own focus on supporting independent businesses in Mid Wales. Helping promote a historic pub that supports local producers, welcomes the community and encourages more people to explore the area is exactly the type of work we enjoy being part of.

Looking ahead, the focus is to continue supporting Plas Yn Dinas with website improvements, content updates and SEO, helping the pub strengthen its online presence as the business continues to grow.
