Project Brief
At Digidol, I am always on the lookout for exciting new projects and opportunities to help small businesses grow and achieve their potential. As I was traveling to Darwin, I came across the job advert on a popular job site and got in touch.
Select Switchboards‘ founder Sam was looking for an experienced digital marketer to work closely with him and the Select team on a short-term contract to create a comprehensive online presence for the business.
After a short back and forth on email we arranged an informal meeting to discuss the project in full, and Digidol’s capabilities, to see if it was a good fit.
Select Switchboards was already experiencing a large amount of growth and success through its existing professional network. However, the next goal for Select was to begin competing for and winning large Government tenders or private projects to take the business to the next level. This required a professional online profile to back up the offline work and help to attract new clients and projects for exponential growth.
Another motive for the website was to provide a professional profile that attracted new skilled workers into the business. As the design and manufacture of switchboards are specialised, Select found it difficult to recruit the right workers to fulfill vacant roles. One possible reason for this was the lack of an online profile for the business deterring skilled workers from applying.
Project Overview
After Select Switchboards launched in 2021, there was a basic website template started; however, with the incredible growth of the business through the existing networks, it was left unpublished.
This template provided a good base for structure and content, which when dissected and expanded upon working closely with the Select Switchboards team, resulted in a full website plan and timeline for the project.
Comparing this plan to competitors within the Australian switchboard manufacturing industry we opted for a content-based SEO strategy to gain an organic advantage from launch.
This involved working closely with both the design team at Select and the assembly and manufacturing team. Helping me to better understand the intricacies of the different switchboards they assembled and the services offered to ensure that their expertise was reflected within the website content.
For the website design, the existing template structure provided a good starting point. Sam wanted to keep the website looking clean, easy to navigate, and simple to read. We also discussed the use of the brand colours of yellow, black, and white to be used throughout the site, highlighting important text and CTAs to increase conversion.
The use of high-quality imagery was also important. Not only to provide page breaks but also to demonstrate the capabilities and facilities of Select Switchboards visually. This involved working closely with a member of the manufacturing team with a keen eye for photography to capture the Select Switchboard team in action with some incredible results.
Project Review
As per the project timeline, the Select Switchboards website went live at the beginning of August 2023. A 20-page site filled with SEO-targeted content, it was the largest-ever initial launch site that I have made by Digidol.
Looking to the future, the plan is to keep working closely with Select Switchboards to help grow their website and their overall online presence. Already working on a second phase of the website development, with a focus on adding more unique content such as a portfolio and individual project pages. The end goal is to grow Select Switchboards’ online profile to match its evergrowing offline reputation in the switchboard manufacturing market.
