Project Brief
Welshpool Golf Club contacted Digidol seeking a complete revamp of their online presence. The club’s previous website was outdated, clunky, and difficult to update, meaning it failed to reflect what is often described as one of the most beautiful golf courses in Wales. In addition to failing to promote their key Unique Selling Points (USPs) such as the many benefits of being a member.
The committee wanted a modern platform that would showcase the course at its best while also serving as a central hub of clear, up-to-date information for members, visitors, and societies. At the same time, they were keen to celebrate the club’s unique heritage, from its roots in the 1890s to its present-day role in the community.
Our goals were to create a website that truly captured the Welshpool Golf Club experience: showcasing the stunning scenery and individual holes, promoting membership and visitor opportunities, as well as highlighting the welcoming atmosphere of the clubhouse. Retaining the existing external tee time booking system was also essential to ensure members and visitors could continue to book with ease.
On a personal note, being from Welshpool with family ties to the club made this a particularly important project for us at Digidol. It was a genuine honour to be trusted with creating a new website and helping to boost the digital presence for such a historic and community-focused club.
Project Overview
Discovery & Strategy
To shape the vision for the new website, we worked with the committee to review a wide selection of local and national golf club sites. This helped us gather inspiration for design features and content approaches that would resonate with golfers while remaining unique to Welshpool. From there, we focused on a streamlined structure with simple navigation, ensuring information such as green fees, membership options, and visitor details was easy to access.
Equally as important was creating the space to tell the club’s story. From the historic course design by James Braid to the club’s modern-day partnerships, such as its collaboration with the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, we wanted the site to reflect Welshpool’s proud heritage while also pointing firmly toward the future.
Build & Design
The design was kept deliberately clean and modern, using a white background and simple typography so the course imagery could take centre stage. High-resolution photographs and striking drone footage were incorporated throughout to capture the natural beauty and panoramic views that set Welshpool Golf Club apart.
Behind the scenes, we implemented caching and performance optimisation to ensure the site loaded quickly across devices. The aim was to create a smooth, enjoyable browsing experience that mirrored the sense of quality and pride players feel on the course itself.
Alongside the new design, we developed content sections including a detailed Course Guide, giving golfers an insight into the layout and challenges of individual holes, particularly important as Welshpool is a notoriously tough course to play. We also expanded the dedicated Visitor Information and Membership pages, both of which are vital in promoting the course to new audiences.
A key part of the brief was also to celebrate the club’s heritage and highlight the club’s partnerships, particularly with the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust. This collaboration not only supports local conservation efforts but also reflects the club’s commitment to protecting and celebrating the natural environment that makes Welshpool such a unique golfing destination.
Conversion & Operations
Every element of the site was designed with optimal usability in mind. Clear CTAs direct visitors to book tee times via the external system, while membership enquiry forms are simple and quick to complete. Fixtures, events, and clubhouse information are presented in a clear, accessible way, ensuring members and visitors alike can find what they need easily.
Project Review
As mentioned, this was a particularly meaningful project for me at Digidol. The importance of Welshpool Golf Club for the community of Welshpool and my family over the years, it was a real honour to contribute to the club’s digital future.
The new website now reflects both the proud history and the modern ambitions of the club, combining tradition with fresh design and easy functionality. Looking ahead, we are excited to be working closely with Welshpool Golf Club to create a strong digital marketing strategy to help this long-established institution thrive and evolve.
